"Goffman's Assylum" in third world countries.

In "Asylums" by Goffman, there is an entire essay dedicated to the mentally ill in the United States of the 1950's. One might assume that the horrific conditions psychiatric hospitals endured back then no longer exist now. However, reading "Out of Mind, Out of Sight" in Mother Jones magazine, I realized that the World described by Goffman in "Asylums" still remain the same or it is even worst at least in third world countries. Adults with serious mental illness mixed with the elderly affected by Alzheimer disease, autistic children condemned to be confined inside a box or dark cell. It is horrifying and sad to witness "professionals" of these mental health institutions to perform their job free of sensitiveness and compassion. The reality for these mental health patients is that society doesn’t want to see nor wants to know what happen to them once they are “out of sight”. Therefore, these patients have to be controlled, confined, and punished for being “abnormal”.
The link below would take you to the article, and also you can check the photo essay as well.
